COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF FOUNDATION CELEBRATES

10TH ANNIVERSARY ON THE BIG DAY FOR TEACHERS

North Texas Pep Rally Highlights Nationwide Celebration of Educators

with Thousands of Teachers Being Recognized Across the Country

IRVING, Texas – The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation today celebrated its 10th anniversary as part of its annual Big Day for Teachers -- the largest single-day effort of community impact by the extended college football family, completely focused on educators. Thousands of teachers were recognized and millions of students benefited, with many announcements made by Foundation partners in how they are investing in education for the coming year. An estimated $1.5 million was invested in teacher resources through individual grants and DonorsChoose gift cards on the Big Day.

A pep rally was hosted by the CFP Foundation this morning at Mount Auburn STEAM Academy in Dallas to commemorate  10 years of inspiring, empowering, and supporting teachers, featuring pro football Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Brown, who attended Mount Auburn for elementary school. Ten years ago, Brown and the CFP Foundation officially kicked off their overall mission to support teachers at Mount Auburn.

Today’s event also included representatives from all four of North Texas’ college football bowl games – the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl, and the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. Each bowl surprised a Mount Auburn teacher with a $1,000 DonorChoose gift card for classroom resources. The Cotton Bowl Foundation utilized the CFP Foundation’s grant-matching program to gift $50,000 each to four organizations that support teachers and education – Catch Up and Read, the Educator Collective, United to Learn, and City Teaching Alliance. The CFP Foundation contributed $100,000 to match the Cotton Bowl Foundation’s $100,000 on the four grants. Nationwide, all 43 bowl games contributed DonorsChoose gift cards to support teachers on the Big Day.

“We’re thrilled that we could celebrate this great milestone on the Big Day at Mount Auburn where we held the CFP Foundation’s inaugural kickoff 10 years ago,” said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky. “We’d like to thank all of our partners and friends like Tim Brown, as well as the conferences, schools, student-athletes, broadcasters, and bowl games. We couldn’t do all that we do without their continued support. The nationwide impact we have had on educators over our first 10 years has been tremendous. We can’t wait to see what we can accomplish over our next 10.”

Part of Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) Week, today marked the fourth annual Big Day for Teachers, resulting in the recognition of thousands of teachers nationwide. The Big Day, as well as the events around EYFT Week, mobilized the college football community in celebrating and honoring educators in all 50 states. Last year, overall participation in EYFT Week and the Big Day for Teachers more than doubled for the second straight year, with more than 1,200 friends and partners of the CFP Foundation stepping up to thank teachers.

Based in North Texas, the CFP  Foundation  serves   as   the   community engagement  arm of  the  College  Football  Playoff and works in conjunction with colleges, conferences, bowls, ESPN, and other partners to support teachers and improve student outcomes.
