IRVING, Texas – The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation will again execute the Teacher of the Year Championship Experience, presented by Dr Pepper, during the weekend of the College Football Playoff National Championship. The program recognizes the most influential teachers in the country.
This initiative is made possible through the CFP Foundation’s partnership with the National Teacher of the Year Program, run by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). This elite group of teachers is composed of one exemplary Teacher of the Year from each state, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the territories. The 2017 State Teachers of the Year spent the last year with CCSSO honing their policy, practice and advocacy skills.
“Each day, educators are making a difference for students in classrooms across this country,” said Carissa Miller, interim CCSSO Executive Director. “CCSSO is committed to elevating the teaching profession, and supporting outstanding educators through our National Teacher of the Year program, which continues as the oldest, most prestigious national honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching. CCSSO is proud to partner with the College Football Playoff Foundation for its recognition of these talented professionals shaping our future generations.”
During the weekend leading up to the national championship game on Monday, January 8 in Atlanta, Ga., the State Teachers of the Year will be honored guests at CFP Foundation events including the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit, Extra Yard for Teachers Lounge, Extra Yard 5K and Taste of the Championship. In addition, the teachers are treated to VIP hospitality at the AT&T Playoff Playlist Live! concert series and Championship Tailgate events.
As the pinnacle of the weekend, the teachers will be recognized on the field prior to the national championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. This presentation utilizes college football’s largest stage to continue the CFP Foundation’s mission to elevate the teaching profession through the Extra Yard for Teachers platform.
“Since 2008, Dr Pepper has awarded nearly $10 million to help students pursue their educational goals,” said Jim Trebilcock, Dr Pepper Chief Commercial Officer. “The students would not be where they are today without the support of teachers. We simply cannot thank these individuals enough for their dedication to their profession and, more importantly, their daily commitment to educate our children.”
Added Britton Banowsky, CFP Foundation Executive Director, “It is a privilege to partner with Dr Pepper and CCSSO in hosting and honoring these extraordinary educators at the CFP National Championship. These teachers represent their colleagues throughout the United States, and this is a small way for us to express our gratitude for teachers everywhere.”
